for Dad

Dad the 1970’s
pre-Madonna
pre-wardrobe malfunction

Dearest Dad,

Seeing you in a bra (when you actually had something to put in a bra) was amusing. We know you had to “stuff” the bra to impress. Who knew you and Mom were so visionary designing a costume wearing the bra on the outside, pre-Madonna, pre-“wardrobe malfunction” days. A stark white pointy bra over totally black clothing.

I believe the event was a New Year’s Eve Party at the Bounty Inn in East Rockaway with the regular Pepperidge Road gang. This early foundation of homemade costume making influenced many years of my costume making. I often had an environmental or economic dictum or message I was expressing. Recently purchasing costumes has become the norm.

All my love,
Wendy
